Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens 'Tan Track'

Notes

This map is best viewed in 'Hybrid'. You can zoom in to 100m.

Locally known as 'the Tan' and very popular among Melburnians. It's great to start the Tan Track at the bottom of Alexandra Street hill whilst you are fresh and then the rest of the course is a 'walk in the park'.

The Anderson Street hill is a killer!! A quick survey from anyone, is it better to run the anderson street uphill and down Kings Domain, or down anderson st and up around Kings Domain?

I reckon it's harder to run the Anderson St uphill...it took me ages to be able to jog the whole way without walking going in that direction.

No way! if you make it up Anderson Street Hill, you can almost fall around the rest of the tan. It's a gentle downward slope from there.
Anyway, it's always pleasant around the tan, it seems the air is just a bit fresher with all the trees in the Botanical Gardens acting like a filter.
See you at round the tan!

Running up the Anderson Street Hill is hard at first, but once you have done it a few times it gets easier, and you will find you can eventually run an entire lap of the Tan without stopping. So run up the hill, rather than in the other direction - you get there eventually! Also, the soft gravel surface around the Tan is one of the best surfaces I have run on. So soft for the shins and calves!!

I run both ways around The Tan. It adds variety...but on the days I run up Anderson Street, I always start my run from the bottom of the hill, that way I'm at my freshest. If I'm running 2 laps of The Tan, I always run 1 lap one way then reverse it. I also start that with the hill 1st
